Common Concerns Parents Seek Help With

Sleep Difficulties

Many kids and teenagers with disabilities have problems sleeping which can be hard on the child and caregivers. Some have trouble falling and staying asleep, or wake up too early and have a hard time getting back to sleep.

Social Skills

We facilitate and help develop social skills in children and youth with disabilities to enhance participation in the community and school and help them to establish meaningful relationships with others.

Wandering, also called elopement, is an important safety issue that affects some children with disabilities and their families. We help parents put safety measures in place and ethical ways to reduce its occurrence.

School Refusal

Struggles with regular school attendance and active participation affect some children with disabilities. We partner with families and schools to understand the cause (i.e. sensory, anxiety, rigidity) and come up with a plan to best support the student.

Language and Communication

We work with and support a wide range of vocal and non-vocal communicators and teach verbal and nonverbal behavior so that children can successfully express their wants and needs and interact with others.

Many children with disabilities experience challenges with potty training, such as difficulty communicating when they need the toilet, not realizing when they have to use the bathroom, and issues with routine changes.

At Learning and Behavior Consulting, we prioritize personalized care and effective strategies.

Behavior Assessment

We conduct safe and ethical functional assessments to better understand challenging behavior and why it occurs. Our Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) develops personalized treatment plans for children and adolescents who engage in behaviors often associated with autism or intellectual disabilities. We also work with schools, community organizations, and clinical facilities.

ABA Therapy

Our clinical specialty is applied behavior analysis therapy for children and adolescents with autism. Depending on your child’s unique needs, goals might aim to increase language, self-care, and social skills, and decrease self-injurious behavior, tantrums, and aggression. ABA is the only evidence-based treatment that currently exists for autism and is backed by over 40 years of success in treating children.

Parent Education

We provide coaching to parents and caregivers on how to implement effective teaching and behavioral strategies. Our home-based program is designed to prevent the development of severe behaviors in young children recently diagnosed with autism. We also offer training for parents of older children and adolescents who engage in mild to moderate behaviors regardless of diagnosis.
